The Ukrainian higher education sector as a whole is distinguished as the Winner 2022 of the EAIE Award for Vision and Leadership. The European Association for International Education (EAIE) aims to recognise and applaud the outstanding fortitude and resilience displayed by Ukrainian higher education institutions throughout the Russian government invasion and the conflict that continues to claim lives every day in Ukraine.
The award was announced at the 32nd Annual EAIE Conference and Exhibition that took place in Barcelona from 13–16 September.
A dedicated session “What’s new in Ukraine” took place on 14 September to inform the broader HE community about the latest news and innovations in HE and science in Ukraine. The presentation covered resilience in war-time, challenges of displaced universities as well as capacity building, networking and Erasmus+ opportunities for international cooperation and was jointly presented by the Ukrainian State Center for International Education “Study in Ukraine”, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (MESU), Professional Network of Education and Science Managers of Ukraine (PNRM) and National Erasmus+ Office – Ukraine. Visit of the top-ranking Ukrainian delegation to Barcelona was supported by the Catalan Ministry of Research and Education and by the German Academic Exchange Service within the project Management of Internationalisation and German-Ukrainian Academic Cooperation (MoI Ukraine) which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The MoI Ukraine Project aims at the support of the internationalisation of Ukrainian Higher Education Institutions, and the German-Ukrainian Academic Society is one of the cooperation partners this project.
EAIE is dedicated to providing timely and relevant content and resources to support the international education community in Europe, bringing together helpful materials on how to support Ukrainian institutions, and affected students and academics.
