SCOTLAND, Scottish-European funding for early career researchers: European Crucible 2022

  • Deadline: 21 February 2022
  • Target group: early/mid-career researchers employed in Scotland or Europe, and carrying out research in science, engineering, technology, medicine, healthcare, arts, design, humanities, business, or social and political science. Ambitious university Lecturers and Readers (i.e. Assistant and Associate Professors), Research Fellows and equivalents in research institutes and industry with experience of managing their own research, are encouraged to apply
  • A cohort of 50 researchers, 25 from Scottish institutions and 25 from institutions across European countries, will be selected for the programme by a panel of top researchers
  • Once awarded a place on the European Crucible Event, all training, networking and administration costs for participants will be covered

GERMANY, DAAD Partnerschaften mit Hochschulen in Ostmittel-, Südost- und Osteuropa sowie dem Kaukasus und Zentralasien (“Ostpartnerschaften”)/ Partnerships with universities in East-Central, South-Eastern and Eastern Europe as well as the Caucasus and Central Asia (“Eastern Partnerships”)

  • Deadline: 28 February 2022
  • Aim: to initiate or consolidate partnerships between HEIs in Germany and in the target region, to promote broad-based cooperation in teaching and research and to strengthen the teaching conditions of the participating higher education institutions in the long term

GERMANY, Bavaria: Bavarian Funding Programme for the Initiation of International Projects

  • Funding: up to maximum EUR 10,000
  • Deadline: 8 March

  • MSCA Staff Exchanges involve organisations from the academic and non-academic sectors (including SMEs) from across the globe. Support is provided for international, inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary mobility of R&I staff leading to knowledge transfer between participating organisations.
  • Mobility through secondments: The organisations constituting the partnership contribute directly to the implementation of a joint R&I project by seconding and/or hosting staff members. Such a project must explore activities that can be based on previous work but should go beyond and generate or strengthen long-term collaborations.
  • Skills’ Development: For participating staff members, the project should offer new skills acquisition and career development perspectives.

Wellcome Discovery Awards

  • Deadline: 24 March 2022
  • To deliver significant shifts in understanding that could improve human life, health and wellbeing
  • Eligibility of the host organisation of the lead applicant: UK, Republic of Ireland, Low- or middle-income countries (apart from India and mainland China), including Ukraine

UKRAINE, The Lysiak-Rudnytsky Ukrainian Studies Programme 2022

  • Deadline: 27 March 2022
  • Goal: Promotion of Ukraine abroad, participation in nuanced discourse about the country, and facilitation of research on a broad variety of Ukrainian studies topics among international experts and the general public.
  • Eligibility: Cultural, educational, and research centers and institutions registered outside Ukraine are welcome to submit project proposals.

EU Horizon Europe, Hop On Facility

  • Expected first deadlines: 20 April 2022, 10 November 2022
  • The Hop On Facility allow to integrate 1 additional participant from a Widening country to an ongoing project under Pillar 2 or the EIC pathfinder scheme while topping up a relevant task or work package and the cost incurred by the additional participant

CANADA, NSERC of Canada “Alliance International”

  • No deadline
  • The overall objectives are to: (1) allow Canadian researchers to initiate the development of international collaborations; and (2) provide support for Canadian researchers participating in international collaborative projects of global importance and benefit to Canada.

FELLOWSHIPS

GERMANY; Copernicus Stipendium-Programm

  • Deadlines: 1 March & 1 September
  • Scholarships to undergraduate students from Eastern and Central European, North African, and Central Asian countries
  • Eligibility: undergraduate students, incl. medicine (in 4-5 year); German: B2-C1; < 4 months already in Germany at the time of application or already spent 1+ semester in Germany
  • Duration: ca 6 months. During the first 3 months of their stay in Germany, the scholarship holders attend study courses at a German university, and in the last 2 to 3 months they complete an internship in a company, government agency or organization.

EUROPE: EFIS & Immunology Letters (IL) Short Term Fellowships

  • Deadline: 12 March 2022
  • Duration: up to 3 months
  • Aimed at young (under age of 35, an extension of up to 18 months may be granted for maternity/paternity leave, civil or military service, etc.) researchers with at least a Master’s degree

GERMANY: Helmholtz Visiting Researcher Grants in the field of information and data sciences

  • Deadline: 15 March 2022
  • Duration: 1-3 months
  • Aimed at postdocs and doctoral students from (inter-)national research organizations and researchers from industry (Master’s degree with at least 3 years of research experience, or PhD)

UK-UKRAINE: UKRAINE LAB – an online residency for emerging writers from Ukraine and the UK

  • Deadline: 21 March

GERMANY, Bavaria: BAYHOST mobility grants for research stays in Bavaria or Eastern Europe for students and young scientists from Eastern Europe and Bavaria have the opportunity, in cooperation with lecturers at Bavarian universities. Maximum funding: EUR 1,000

GERMANY, Bavaria: BAYHOST internships in Eastern Europe for students from Bavarian universities and colleges, maximum funding: EUR 450

GERMANY, AvH Georg Forster Research Fellowship

  • No deadline
  • Eligibility: Researchers from developing or transition countries in accordance with OECD (excluding PR China and India), with proposals relevant for the continued development of the country or region of origin. “Eligible applicants must have lived outside Germany for a min. of 12 months in total in the 18-month period prior to submission of the application. Potential applicants of German nationality are eligible to apply provided that their habitual place of work and residence has been located abroad on the assumption of permanence for at least 5 years.”
  • Two types: (a) Postdoctoral researchers: < 4 years after PhD, (b) Experienced researchers: 4 years < PhD < 12 years
  • Duration: for (a) 6-24 months; for (b) 6-18 months, can be split in max. 3 periods over 3 years
  • Can apply for a 1-year return fellowship to sponsor reintegration into an institute abroad in Argentina, Bulgaria and Romania, and

EMBO Postdoctoral Fellowships

  • Spring evaluation: includes all eligible applications submitted by the 2nd Friday of February, 14:00 CET. Autumn evaluation: includes all eligible applications submitted by the 2nd Friday of August, 14:00 CET.
  • Duration: 2 years
  • Eligibility: < 2 years after a PhD AND at least 1 first-author paper published in English originally; International mobility; “candidates who have already started working in the host laboratory can apply only if they have been working in the host laboratory for < 6 months at the time the application is complete”.
