Bioelectronics engineer Denys Nikolayev wins an ERC Starting Grant

Dr Denys Nikolyaev, tenured CNRS research officer at the Institut d’Électronique et des Technologies du numéRique (IETR – UMR CNRS 6164, Université de Rennes) has been awarded an ERC starting grant for his project BESSEL: Deep-Body Wireless Bioelectronics Enabled by Physics-Based Bioadaptive Wave Control.

Denys graduated from the Lviv Polytechnic National University (Ukraine) in 2008 with M.Sc. in electronics and telecommunications (summa cum laude). He gained joint Ph.D. degrees in electronics from the IETR laboratory of French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), France and in electrical engineering from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, Czechia in 2017, and the “Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches” degree from the University of Rennes in 2023.

Qualified researchers can apply for the following opening positions in Denys’ research group:

In 2024, the European Research Council (ERC) received 3 474 proposals, which were evaluated by peer review panels of internationally renowned researchers. Overall, 14.2% of the proposals were selected for funding. Starting Grants amount to €1.5 million per grant for a period of five years. However, additional funds can be made available to cover costs related to moving from a country outside the EU or associated countries, the purchase of major equipment, access to large facilities or major experimental and fieldwork-related costs.

The ERC offers four core grant schemes: Starting Grants, Consolidator Grants, Advanced Grants and Synergy Grants. With its additional Proof of Concept Grant scheme, the ERC helps grantees to bridge the gap between their pioneering research and early phases of its commercialisation.
