Various DAAD funding programs: Forthcoming deadlines

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports international academic cooperation of German Higher Education Institutions through individual fellowships and various funding instruments, which in some cases are also open for German research institutes.

Forthcoming deadlines:

East-West Dialogue. Academic exchange and scientific cooperation for security, cooperation and civil society development in Europe/ Ost-West-Dialog. Akademischer Austausch und wissenschaftliche Kooperation für Sicherheit, Zusammenarbeit und zivilgesellschaftliche Entwicklung in Europa

Deadline: 1 September

The goals of the program are scientific dialogue and understanding on conflict research and prevention or on topics such as democratization processes, the rule of law, good governance, protection of minorities or civil society development in relation to the target countries; the establishment of the exchange and the networks between German and foreign universities, students and young academics as well as cross-border academic exchange and professional cooperation in the mentioned region.

What is funded? Implementation of / participation in conferences, meetings, workshops, specialist courses, seminars, study trips or summer schools as well as short grants for the implementation of research projects in the partner countries and / or Germany in terms of sustainability.


Summer Schools Abroad/ Sommerschulen im Ausland

Deadline: 13 September

Goals of the program:

  • Attracting qualified foreign students and / or young researchers
  • Professional training in current research areas as well as professional and cultural exchange
  • Offering an insight into German teaching and research practice or, at art and music colleges, into new artistic developments for international participants
  • Positioning the German universities on the international education market (e.g. integration into the university’s own internationalization strategy).

What is funded? The planning and implementation of high-quality summer schools abroad for international students and / or doctoral candidates is funded.


Development of university cooperation with the countries of Eastern and Southeastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia/ Ausbau der Hochschulzusammenarbeit mit den Ländern Ost- und Südosteuropas, des Südkaukasus und Zentralasiens

Deadline:  15 October

What is funded? Both small information events and large bilateral university days (line 1) as well as exploratory visits by German professors and / or other university members to one or more universities in one or more countries in the target regions (line 2) are funded.
