This scholarship supports further training and research stays at the German universities in the areas of German as a foreign language, German as a mother tongue, German as a minority language, teaching German, German philology, German studies as well as cultural, social and human sciences with reference to the culture and history of the German minorities.

Stays for research and further education at the German universities or the non-university research institutions, which are carried out in coordination with a scientific supervisor in Germany include:
- 1-6 months for qualified graduates, doctoral candidates and young scientists
- 1-3 months for lecturers/assistant professors and professors
