Call for proposals:
- RUTA (Association for Central, South-Eastern, Eastern European, Baltic, Caucasus, Central and Northern Asian Studies) Annual Conference “Rooted knowledges and dialogues for change” will take place in the Carpathian Mountains, Ukraine, on 12–15 July 2026. Proposals of panels, roundtables, as well as individual presentations must be submitted by November 15, 2025. Preference will be given to transregional panels that bring region(s) into conversation (ideally, perspectives on an umbrella topic by scholars from multiple RUTA region(s), tracing how particular concerns manifest in similar / different ways across the region).

- “Hidden Ukrainian Genius”: Exhibition Explore an illuminating exhibition detailing groundbreaking inventions and discoveries made by Ukrainians.

Stolen History: Film and discussion with Kyiv director Olesia Nohina. The screening of the historical documentary drama ʼYaroslav the Wiseʼ invites audiences to rediscover the true origins of Ukrainian statehood, long overshadowed by Russian imperial myths. Through the story of Grand Prince Yaroslav and his far-reaching European alliances, the film highlights Ukraine’s deep historical ties to Europe. After the screening, director Olesia Nohina and historian Andrew Fesiak will join a discussion moderated by ARD correspondent Birgit Virnich on reclaiming historical truth as a key element of Ukraine’s freedom and resilience amid Russia’s ongoing war and propaganda.

Eine Veranstaltung im Rahmen der Buch Wien “Flieg, mein Lied” mit Ludger Hagedorn, Tanja Maljartschuk, Juri Andruchowytsch, Maria Weissenböck, Ganna Gryniva, Gerti Drassl. Mit der neuen Reihe „Ukrainische Bibliothek in deutscher Sprache“ (Wallstein Verlag) erscheinen erstmals zentrale Werke der ukrainischen Literatur in sorgfältig edierten Übersetzungen – literarische Entdeckungen von sprachlicher Kraft und politischer Brisanz. Im Schatten des Kriegs erfahren die großen Namen der ukrainischen Klassik endlich die Aufmerksamkeit, die lange schmerzhaft vermisst wurde. Als erste Bände erscheinen Taras Schewtschenkos Gedicht- und Tagebuchauswahl Flieg, mein Lied, meine wilde Qual und Lesja Ukrajinkas Erzählband Am Meer.
