Event Report: The Ukrainian Summer School in Combinatorics 2025 (Freiberg, Germany)

The Ukrainian Summer School 2025 in Freiberg was organised at TU Freiberg (Sachsen, Germany) on September 15-19, 2025. It brought together an exceptional group of speakers, who offered mini-courses at the forefront of current research. For the participants, it was a unique chance to connect with leading Ukrainian mathematicians and to become part of a growing international network that TU Freiberg is helping to build. This summer school was organised by Johannes Carmesin, Oleg Pikhurko and Matthew Kroeker.

To further strengthen Ukrainian research excellence, TU Freiberg established the Ukrainian Prize in Combinatorics, awarded this year to Andrii Arman for his remarkable contributions in combinatorial geometry, where he resolved long-standing questions of Kalai and Schramm.

The Prize is aimed to distinguish a researcher with connections to Ukraine who must not have obtained a PhD more than 7 years ago. The prize of 1000 Euros is funded by TU Freiberg and “EdUp – Support and Expansion of the Ukrainian Higher Education Sector in the Area of Resources and Technology” (a collaboration project between TU Bergakademie Freiberg (Germany, lead), GE Montanuniversität Leoben (Austria), Dnipro University of Technology (Ukraine) and Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT (Finland), funded by the Erasmus+ and BMFTR).
