“The Most Documented War” Symposium for Documentation and Archiving Initiatives was held in Lviv in June 2024. It gathered initiatives and individuals chronicling russia’s war against Ukraine in order to facilitate dialogue, exchange, and cooperation.
The symposium organisers have been involved in the documentation initiatives in various ways. For instance, the Center for Urban History launched several documentation projects focusing on collecting testimonies, visual materials, diaries and dreams, social media, and web content. One of the initiatives — Telegram Archive — was developed in close cooperation with the Center for Governance and Culture in Europe at the University of St. Gallen.

INDEX is an independent institution that has grown out of the IWM’s decades-long engagement with Ukraine, which since 2015 has included the Ukraine in European Dialogue programme. And in February 2022, the IWM immediately recognised the urgency of supporting Ukrainian intellectuals and cultural figures as they chronicled the Ukrainian experience of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Within days of the start of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the IWM had launched the programme Documenting Ukraine.
