OPIR, launched by WeАreUkraine.info, is an English-language special historical project dedicated to the history of the resistance movement in Ukraine over the past century, from 1917 to the present day. ‘Opir’ means ‘resistance’ in Ukrainian.
The OPIR project aims to cover the various phases of the Ukrainian society’s development against aggression from the Soviet government in the past and the current Russian authorities. It explores the Ukrainian tradition of resistance against persecution and repression and its impact on the present-day Ukrainian resistance to Russian war. By examining historical instances, the project aims to demonstrate how Ukrainians have evolved into a self-defined nation that assertively shapes its own destiny and effectively withstands Russian aggression.
