One of the most renowned Ukrainian writers, in his texts Serhiy Zhadan vividly demonstrates what many have long refused to see, according to the jury.
Serhiy Zhadan have received numerous national and international awards for his literary works, which have been translated into many languages. In 1991, he was one of the organizers of the Kharkiv neo-futurist literary group “Chervona Fira”. Since 2000, he has been a Vice-President of the Ukrainian Writers’ Association.
Zhadan was born in Starobilsk, Luhansk Oblast in Ukraine. He studied German and graduated from H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University in 1996 with a thesis on the work of Mykhaylo Semenko and the Ukrainian Futurist writers of the 1920s.
