In Commemoration of the Ukrainian physicist Prof. Vasyl Kladko (1957-2022), yet another victim of the Russian war against Ukraine

Ukrainian physicist Prof. Dr. Vasyl Kladko was killed on 13 March 2022 by Russian invaders in Vorsel near Kyiv.

Vasyl Kladko, 65, ventured to Vorzel to rescue his family from the city under the attack of Russian military. His wife and grandchildren managed to escape, however Prof. Kladko did not.

Vasyl Kladko was born on January 12, 1957 in the village of Ozero, Volodymyrets district, Rivne region. In 1979 he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Physics of Chernivtsi State University (now: Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University). He received his PhD in 1986 and his doctorate (analogous to German habilitation) in 2000. He was awarded the title of professor in 2007. In 2015, Kladko was elected a corresponding member of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine.

Prof. Vasyl Kladko was a remarkable experimental physicist, long-standing Head of the Department and Deputy Director of the V.E. Lashkaryov Institute of Semiconductor Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. His research was distinguished with the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology and with the V.E. Lashkaryov Prize of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine.
