Humboldt Network & PSI-Meeting “Synergy and Entropy in the Ukrainian Scientific Landscape in Germany”. Due to the war in Ukraine, a Ukrainian academic landscape has emerged in Germany within a short period, largely supported by the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation. The conference at the TU Dresden aims to promote exchange between the researchers sponsored by the Humboldt Foundation.  The central question of the conference is whether the special situation since 2022 has produced synergetic effects in sciences and the humanities both within Germany and in exchange with Ukraine, or whether divergent tendencies of entropy can be observed.

Book Introduction & Discussion: Laboratory of Modernity: Ukraine between Empire and Nation, 1772–1914. Speaker: Serhiy Bilenky, Research Associate at the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, University of Alberta and Director of the Harvard Ukrainian Summer Institute (HUSI). Moderated by Serhii Plokhii, Mykhailo S. Hrushevs’kyi Professor of Ukrainian History and Director of the Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard University.

Making innovative use of methods of social and cultural history, gender studies, literary theory, and sociology, Laboratory of Modernity explores the history of Ukraine throughout the long nineteenth century and offers a unique study of its pluralistic society, culture, and political scene. The first comprehensive study of nineteenth-century Ukraine in English, Laboratory of Modernity traces the historical origins of some of the most pressing issues facing Ukraine and the international community today.
