Physicist Andrii Chumak (University of Vienna) is awarded the IEEE Magnetics Society Mid-Career Award

DUAG member phycisist Prof. Dr. Andrii Chumak (University of Vienna, Austria), where he leads the Nanomagnetism and Magnonics group, has been awarded the 2026 IEEE Magnetics Society Mid-Career AwardFor foundational contributions to magnonics, spintronics, and magnon-based computing.” Prof. Chumak is a co-founder of the Ukrainian Science Diaspora in Austria.

Andrii graduated and received his PhD in Radiophysics from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (2009) and previously led a research sub-group at TU Kaiserslautern (Germany), supported by an ERC Starting Grant MagnonCircuits: “Nano-Scale Magnonic Circuits for Novel Computing Systems”.

The IEEE Magnetics Society  is the leading international professional organisation for magnetism and related fields, advancing science, technology, applications, and training worldwide. Its vision is to serve as the global home for professionals in magnetism and to foster exchange across the community.

The Mid-Career Award is a single annual honour presented across the worldwide magnetism community, recognising outstanding research and technological contributions in fields represented by the Society. The prize includes a monetary award, travel support to the ceremony, and life membership in the IEEE Magnetics Society.
