BMBF/ZOiS Fellowships for Ukrainian social sciences scholars in Berlin, Germany and Ukraine, apply by 26 March 2025

The Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS) is awarding different fellowships for the academic year 2025–2026. ZOiS is seeking to fill several positions (m/f/div) for UNET Fellows within the project ‘Ukraine Research Network@ZOiS’ (UNET), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

  • Location: Depending on the pool and quality of proposals, the group will be a mix of Berlin- and Ukraine- based fellows
  • Duration and starting date: All fellowships are awarded for a period of up to one year. The fellowships for the 2025/2026 academic year will start on 1 September 2025
  • Eligibility: ZOiS is looking for scholars who have or had an active university, research institute, think tank or NGO affiliation in Ukraine. English and Ukrainian are a must.
  • Deadline: 26 March 2025
  • For Berlin-based positions, there are opportunities to apply for Senior and Junior Fellowships

Encouraged are disciplinary and interdisciplinary projects in the social sciences that explore the societal, political, economic, cultural, and environmental consequences of the russia-Ukraine war with a particular focus on (but not limited to):

  • Diversity, identities, and social divides
  • Capacities and strategies (both individual and institutional) to address diversity

The project should include the following components:

  • Empirical documenting and analysis of reality before/during/after the war
  • Practical implications for decision-making in Ukraine and internationally
