Who can apply?
People can apply for a scholarship who have fled to Germany since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine on 24 February 2022 and who would like to realise their own projects with libraries and archives in Germany.
In particular, the programme addresses librarians, archivists, scientists, information specialists, art and culture professionals, authors, translators and teachers, but also people who are involved in the promotion of reading, language cafés or tutoring. Applications are also open to people who want to continue their work for their employers in Ukraine, e.g. in online teaching or advisory services, and who would like to use the infrastructure of libraries and archives for this purpose.
What is funded?
NUMO supports individuals in the realisation of their own projects or the development of their own ideas that relate to the fields of libraries, archives, science, media, educational and cultural work, political, cultural and digital education and participation, the arts and creative industries, cultural heritage, cultural exchange and civil society engagement.
Funding may also be granted to persons from the field of culture and media who wish to further their education and training in their professional field and to develop their personal and professional skills.
The host institutions for the realisation of the projects are libraries and archives in Germany: they offer rooms, work and research resources, (digital) media, technology as well as competences in literature acquisition, information dissemination, reading promotion, media education, digitisation, event organisation as well as in the protection and dissemination of cultural assets. Furthermore, they are cultural places of encounter, exchange, discussion and help in networking with other relevant actors and social groups.
