The NGO “Student Brotherhood of Sumy Region” was created in July 2004. Students in Sumy stood against the unification of three Sumy Universities into a single “Sumy National University”. The main mission focuses on the establishment of the conditions to protect the rights and interests of the students in the Sumy Region and build a civil society.
The students’ organization aims to develop student self-government as a mechanism of local democracy in the system of Ukrainian high education. The thinking goes that active students able to protect their rights at the university will also be able to contribute to the development of the society in the future.
The “Student Brotherhood of Sumy Region” has already organised many projects including Youth Leadership School, Student Kayaking Alloys, Student-to-Student Workshop, Summer School for Students’ Rights, All-Ukrainian Conference of Student Self-Government and others.
